I like bananas

They cajoled, they pleaded, they begged,

me to burn my tires off after graduation.

But I said,

no way man, with the price of tires, I'm too cheap to lay scratch,

I like to keep my scratch in my pocket book,

and besides I'm not sure I know how to burn 'em off.

I lied.

They could tell I was lying but they let me slide.

I revved my engine and sped off,

didn't lay a bit of scratch

or burn a tread of tire,

but they were satisfied with the noise of those straight pipes rumblin'.

Went to Aka's and picked up Samwise and Mouse, then over to Anny's to gather up Jeorge.

We've been watching movies, eating junk and drinking sodie pop.

Or podie sop, mom and dad used to say.

Becky calls it podie sop too.

We are a family of kooks.

I always did like myself a gaggle of goofballs.

We are a troupe. A troupe of them, and that's no lie.

I don't lie about the important stuff,

Now I may avoid the truth,

may stretch the truth,

I may even omit the truth,

but I wont lie about it if it's meaningful.

I do realize that my idea about what constitutes meaningful may vary from,

oh, say,

the ideas of others,

but I sleep just fine, once I actually get to sleep.

I'm content in my bed once the pills kick in,

pity that I really only want to sleep when it's time to get up, though,

Yeah, that's when my sleep comes best, when it's forbidden.

But-a forbidden fruit is oh so sweet.

I like bananas.

At least one a day,

and I can remember when an entire banana was too filling.

I've grown some since then.

And if I had it to do over again.

I'd do it just the same way,

because I repeat patterns,

and then wonder why.

But-a I'm okay with that,

and I'm where I'm supposed to be, right now, full of sodie pop and junk, listening to my babies snore on their pallets and feeling the gentle breeze of the crisp night air waft in through the open window.

And that's some of what's important to me.

Have you ever dumped a bag of M&Ms in a big ol' bowl of popcorn, mixed it all up, snarfed it all down, between sips of Pepsi? It's not my recipe, and I've never tried it, preferring my popcorn served with Pull-n-peel Twizzlers on the side and a big diet Coke, but if you're a chocolate fan, and you like to balance your sweet stuff with some salty stuff, I hear this M&Ms and popcorn recipe can't be beat on family movie night.

Suddenly I'm craving Bugles, but you can only eat those when you're watching Freddie Krueger or the Wizard of Oz -- you know, you have to wear them like claws before you eat 'em. Great with Tollhouse cookies.

My sister sent me Candy Necklaces, Tootsie Rolls, Root Beer Barrels, and Bottle Caps for Mothers Day -- a LOT of all of them. If I could figure out the best salty accompaniments for THAT combination, I'd rent an entire weekend's worth of movies, pancreas be damned!

Lori - Thanks for checking in! Your Paris trip sounded a little scary. Sorry that you had to miss the Musee D'Orsay but maybe next time? But frankly I am just a little disappointed that you didn't check in (and check out) on my previous post about our trip to Pella, Iowa. I really thought I had some beautiful shots on that one... in fact I think that was my favorite post in the 2+ years I've been blogging. ~ jb///
